Africa’s respected soccer legend Albert Roger Milla has accused the president of Cameroon’s FA Iya Mohammed of masterminding his ejection from a highly influential FIFA commission. The famed striker could hardly hold back his bitterness when encountered by journalists recently.

“There is no gainsaying it. Iya Mohammed has a hand behind all these,” Milla boiled. “I met Sepp Blatter last December to present problems plaguing Cameroon football. When Iya heard of this, he went to work to have me removed from inner circles of the FIFA,” the striker who is also one of President Paul Biya’s roving ambassadors said.

The decision terminating Milla’s 16-year stay at the Football Commission of FIFA was notified on 6 January 2012 by FIFA’s executive secretary general Jerome Valcke. That same week, Iya Mohamed, the often criticized czar of Cameroon’s FA was the only African appointed to the restricted organizing committee of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Following the notification of the FIFA decision, Roger Milla tendered his resignation as FIFA’s goodwill ambassador. “It does not bother me. I do not gain anything from FIFA,” Milla said. Born and bred in Japoma outside Doauala in the littoral region of Cameroon, Albert Roger Milla rose from the slums where he first learned to kick puffballs to the appealing fame of best African Footballer of the 20th Century in FIFA records.

In 1994, he became the oldest man to score in a world cup when, at 40, he dribbled past Russian defenders to drive home Cameroon’s lone goal during the match. His trademark dance in celebration of goals has spurred soccer fans since the 1990 World Cup in Italy. He was crowned best African player in 1976 and 1990.
